The following message is transmitted at the request of the Forest
Service Flathead Avalanche Center Kalispell MT

...The Forest Service Flathead Avalanche Center Kalispell MT has
issued a Backcountry Avalanche Warning...

* Timing...In effect now through 0700 AM MST Sunday.

* Affected Area...The Whitefish Range, Swan Range, and Glacier
Park.

* Avalanche Danger...The avalanche danger for the warning area
will rise to HIGH by this evening.

* Reason/Impacts...Heavy snowfall and strong winds will cause
large and dangerous avalanches.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Very dangerous avalanche conditions are expected to develop.
Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Avalanches may run
long distances into valley floors or flat terrain.

...BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM MST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph will
cause whiteout conditions in blowing snow. Significant drifting
of the snow is likely especially after 10 pm tonight.
Additional snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches, are expected.

* WHERE...Flathead Lake, Flathead Valley, Mission Valley, and
Polson.

* WHEN...Until 11 AM MST Sunday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will be very dangerous to
impossible. Tree branches could fall. The cold wind chills as
low as 15 below zero could result in hypothermia if
precautions are not taken.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded, stay with your vehicle. The latest road conditions for

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM MST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Snow occurring. Heavy snow and blowing snow expected
this afternoon into Sunday. Total snow accumulations today
through Sunday of 12 to 18 inches are expected. Gusty winds
will cause blowing and drifting snow and poor visibility.
Blizzard conditions are likely, along with very icy conditions
this afternoon through Sunday.

* WHERE...Bad Rock Canyon, Essex, Highway 83 Bigfork to Swan
Lake, Marias Pass, and Polebridge.

* WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, from 11 AM this morning
to 5 PM MST Sunday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will be very difficult to
impossible. Tree branches could fall. Winds gusting as high as
50 mph will cause widespread blowing and drifting snow. Wind
chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on
exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Be prepared for
reduced visibilities.

winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or

* WHAT...Snow and blowing snow expected. Initial snow
accumulations of 2 to 5 inches expected through the afternoon.
Then, heavy snow and blowing snow expected this afternoon
through Sunday. Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches,
with localized amounts up to 12 inches, are expected by
Sunday evening.

* WHERE...Butte, Georgetown Lake, Highway 12 Garrison to
Elliston, Homestake Pass, and MacDonald Pass.

* WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, from 5 PM this afternoon
to 5 PM MST Sunday. For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 11
AM this morning to 5 PM MST this afternoon.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions. In
addition, areas of poor visibility are likely. Tree branches
could fall. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph will cause areas
of blowing and drifting snow.
