...Cold Continues This Week Over Interior Alaska...

Fairbanks dropped to 30 below this morning. This was the coldest
temperature so far this winter in Fairbanks, and the first 30
below of the winter. Temperatures in Fairbanks area expected to
remain cold through the week, with temperatures between 15 and 35
below zero. Skies are expected to remain mostly cloudy through the
week over Fairbanks.

West of Nenana where skies have cleared, temperatures are expected
to remain between 20 and 40 below through the week.

In a normal winter Fairbanks has about 18 days with temperatures
that reach 30 below.

Northern and Interior Seward Peninsula-
Including Buckland, Deering, Candle, Council, Haycock,
Pilgrim Springs, Serpentine Hot Springs, and Taylor

* WHAT...Very cold wind chills expected. Expect wind chills to
range from 40 below zero to 50 below zero.

* WHERE...Northern and Interior Seward Peninsula.

* WHEN...Now to 6 PM this evening.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The cold wind chills will cause frostbite
in as little as 5 minutes to exposed skin.


A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and sustained wind
speeds of 15 mph or more will create low wind chills. Frost bite
and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken.
